Czech Republic youth international Jan Žambůrek has joined Brentford B. The 17-year-old central midfield player completed a medical in West London earlier this week.

He signed a three-year contract after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Slavia Praha for his transfer. The move was completed today, subject to international clearance, and Jan has already started training with his new Brentford B teammates.

The teenager came through the youth ranks at Slavia. He helped them win the national Under-17 title last season and scored the winning goal in the game where Slavia clinched the title. He was then part of the team that beat the Slovak champions MŠK Žilina in the Super Cup.

Jan was promoted to the Slavia Under-19 group for the new season and has played for them during the summer.

Jan has been playing for the Czech Republic for more than two years, despite being only 17. He has represented them at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level. He played for them in the final qualification games for the UEFA European Under-17 Championships in March and has four caps at that level, scoring one goal. In total he has played 23 games for his country and scored three goals.

He has been part of the Czech national set-up and on the books of Slavia, which shows his quality, and we want to release that potential. He is a central midfielder that will fit with the way we want to play, and we will help him develop.

“It is a great coup for Brentford to get him here on a B Team contract. He is extremely highly regarded in the Czech Republic and had options for his first steps in the professional game. Jan liked what he saw and wanted to be part of what we are building here. He will be part of our individual development plan, working with Lars Friis, and will get the chance to play high-quality games against fine opposition as he develops.
