The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy returns tonight with Brentford one of sixteen teams handed a bye into the second round.

The Bees are one of only three teams to have reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final more than twice - most recently in 2011 where the Bees went down 1-0 to Carlisle United at Wembley.

The pick of tonight’s ties sees a South Coast derby between Portsmouth and Bournemouth while defending champions Chesterfield begin their defence at home to Oldham.

This season also sees the launch of the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge which will see fans and players compete to win prizes for their club.

Competitors will try and kick a football from the half-way line into a huge inflatable paint pot placed in the penalty area.

To add a twist of colour to the initiative, Johnstone’s will be holding competitions on Twitter (@JohnstonesPaint) and Facebook (facebook.com/JohnstonesPaintTrophy) for two supporters to participate in the challenge with their affiliated club.

The club with the most successful attempts will win £2,000 of Johnstone’s products for a club make-over along with a free consultation with Johnstone’s technical support team.

The two runners-up clubs will receive £1000 and £500 of Johnstone’s products respectively.

The Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge Tour will visit seven training grounds around the country during the course of the 2012/13 season.

Every last drop of paint pot action will be caught on camera and uploaded to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy website as well as Twitter, Facebook and the club website.

Paul Farrell, sponsorship manager for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, believes this year will be like no other for fan engagement.

He said: “There’s nothing quite like going on tour and we believe that our Paint Pot Challenge is the new ace up our sleeve for interacting with fans.

“As we visit training grounds across the UK, we can’t wait to see the reaction of players and supporters to the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge and get them excited about being part of the competition.”
