Brentford Football Club's Academy is showing support this summer for a club in war-torn northern Uganda and is asking for help from supporters and the community.

The Club's Academy is looking for Bees fans and the people of Brentford to join them in helping the Gulu United Football Club become 'The Biggest Little Football Club in the World'.

There is an online campaign, United for United - which can be seen at http://igg.me/at/united-for-united/x/1226318, aimed at reviving the beautiful game in Gulu, starting with youth of the area, and there are great incentives for all those who lend their support - including the coolest, most obscure footy scarf on the planet.

Staff at Brentford FC were inspired by this grassroots campaign and video from a group of committed volunteers who simply want to create a fresh start for the club, and leave a legacy for the next generation.

Money raised will go directly towards running the region's first-ever youth identification and training camp, bringing together the regions most talented young players, in September.

Led by Academy Director Ose Aibangee, the Brentford Academy has offered to work with Gulu United FC coaches and volunteers to build a youth coaching and training program.

Brentford will send at least one Academy coach to Gulu, Uganda, in September to lead the camp.

In addition, the Academy will be collecting worn boots to send out to the African country for the young players to use.

Ose said: "This is a fantastic campaign and everyone in the Academy was inspired by it.

"While we focus on the aims of our Academy we must never forget that football is a global game and can bring hope to many.

"The idea to bring football back to an area hit by war by encouraging youngsters to play is one that struck a chord with us.

"We will do anything we can do to help spread the message of football and sport and are delighted to get involved in the United for United campaign.

"We have set a target of collecting 100 pairs of used football boots by the end of the 2013/14 season and hope Brentford supporters can help us do that.

"Hopefully young stars of the future are waiting to be discovered and Gulu United can benefit from the expertise of our coaches."

If any Brentford supporters or local residents have used football boots - in reasonable condition - that can be sent to Uganda, please drop them in to the Club.
