Josh Dasilva was told that he might have to accept never playing football again. His unique hip injury kept him out of the majority of our first ever Premier League campaign, but it didn't end his career.

In fact, this week he showed how much progress he has made when he scored in our first pre-season friendly against Boreham Wood.

Sitting down with us last week, Josh spoke to us about his long return from injury and what it's been like returning to training this season. The first thing we asked him was about his journey back from what almost seemed like an abrupt ending.

"It was tough," said Josh. "In a way it was good for me. Most of what happened was out of my control, so I focused on what I could control. That was mainly about getting back to fitness as good as I could have.

"I've got good family and friends, and the people around the Club have been second to none. It's not been easy but I think I've handled it quite well."

His injury wasn't one that supporters will be familiar with. It didn't have an exact return date, it wasn't a straight forward muscular problem or bone fracture and it hadn't been seen in the squad ever before.

"In simple terms, I lost a bit of bone in my hip. It was swollen, so I had to wait for that to go down and then wait for the bone to repair itself. When you're speaking to the best specialist in the UK and he's telling you he hasn't seen it in sports before.

"The inital conversation was that I might not be able to play again. I laughed because I wasn't going to stop playing. I just knew that whatever time it took for me to get back, that's what it will be.

"There weren't any alarams bells but I did think that originally it would only be an eight to twelve week injury. You get the news it will be a lot longer and you just have to get on with it and crack on."
