Now available to buy online, Saturday’s match programme includes an in-depth interview with Josh Dasilva.
Josh spoke with Club Journalist Adam Goodwin about the impact that Thomas Frank and the Brentford staff have had on his career.
“I started the first few games and then I was dropped,” said Josh when asked to rewind to the 2019/20 season in which he scored ten goals and provided four assists in the Sky Bet Championship.
“I went to speak to the manager, and he just said: ‘Josh, I don’t care if you can put it in the top bins five times in a row. I know you can do that. I want to see the intensity and you working hard, and then you won’t have a problem.’
"It wasn't even that I didn’t want to do that, it was just a lack of understanding. I hadn’t played in midfield for long and it was a different environment at Arsenal.
“So, once I understood what I had to do, within two weeks I was in the team, starting against Bristol City - I didn’t play well that game but I scored - and that's just when it clicked.
"Everything on the ball came naturally but, over the next handful of games, in my head, I was constantly thinking, ‘I need to sprint back in, I need to get across quick, I need to do this, do that, do this, do that’, so it was ingrained in me.
“Once it was, then it just became second nature.”
Our second interviewee is Jackie Graham, who captained the Bees to promotion to the Third Division during the 1977/78 season.
“We thoroughly deserved the promotion – and we drunk Guernsey dry for a week afterwards! It was tremendous,” Jackie recalled for our Kings of the Castle feature.
“Coming back from trips like Barnsley, Bradford and Hartlepool, we’d have a beer at the back of the coach and, after a few cans, everyone would be like ‘you should have done this, you should have done that’ and that’s when the arguments would start!
“We knew all the local pubs around Griffin Park and were on first-name terms with the landlords. After away games, we used to knock on the door and they’d welcome us in until all hours of the morning.”
Elsewhere, columnists Ben Burgess and Nathan Caton reflect on the week that was, while Ian Westbrook retraces Jonathan Douglas’ career path in A-Z.
In Viewfinder, Content Creator Talia Heggs provides a behind-the-scenes look at Brentford’s goalkeeper group.
