The Spanish winger joined The Bees in August 2014 after helping SD Eibar secure promotion to La Liga for the first-time in their history the previous season. Jota’s 11 goals during his debut season in West London helped the Club reach the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off semi-final. An ankle injury suffered on the opening day of the 2015/16 campaign kept him out until December and he played just four more games before returning to Eibar on loan the following month for personal reasons.

The 26-year-old made 20 appearances in Spain before re-joining Brentford in January 2017. He scored his first goal back in the 2-1 defeat at Wigan Athletic and went on to net a further 11 goals in 18 league appearances last season. Jota scored his first career hat-trick in the 4-2 win over Rotherham United in February, a month where he was nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month prize. In total, he made 78 appearances for Brentford, scoring 23 goals.

Brentford Head Coach Dean Smith said: “We are all sorry to see Jota leave. He had an extremely productive period for us last season when he returned from his loan spell with Eibar. It was a pleasure to work with him and be involved with some of the special performances he produced – the goal against QPR quickly comes to mind. I believe the speculation around his future has not helped him repeat those performances this season but he has never shied away from playing and training. He was a positive influence around the place and we all wish him well for his future career”

This isn't the first time that we have sold one of our best players, and no doubt it won't be the last. When it becomes clear that a player has outgrown the financial constraints of the Club then it is usually best that they move on for a better contract and for a transfer fee that helps to keep us financially viable in this division. I'm confident that, as before, the rest of the squad will fill the gap and we will continue to progress together."
