Karen Abou-Abdallah impressed on her first appearance for Brentford Women’s First Team on Sunday as the Bees drew 2-2 to National League side Maidenhead United Women.
Speaking on her debut, Abou-Abdallah explained: “I’m not going to lie I was slightly nervous when I first got onto the pitch but it was a very proud moment.
“I’ve been at Brentford for four years now so to finally get my chance in the First Team was a great feeling.”
The Bees went a goal down on 22 minutes but just eight minutes later top scorer, Chloe Logie got the equaliser when the number nine followed up a Kirsty Matthews long-range effort which was saved into the path of the striker who calmly slotted the rebound home.
Maidenhead snatched a goal just before half-time after the visitor’s striker was able to pass the ball into an empty net following a good save from Brentford keeper, Emily Boycott.
Despite going into the break a goal down, the hosts showed unbelievable commitment to dominate the second half against the tier-four opposition.
It took the Bees until the last minute to grab their deserved equaliser and it was Logie again who got her second of the game and ensured the draw for her side.
Talking about the result, Abou-Abdallah said: “We definitely deserved the draw, the team worked really hard and fought back twice which shows great character.
“Although the game was a friendly it was still very competitive, and I feel like we held our own despite Maidenhead being a few leagues above us.”
The box-to-box midfielder was influential to Karleigh Osborne’s side’s second-half performance adding energy and desire in the central midfield position.
“I just wanted to give everything I had for the team, I knew it was going to be a challenge, but I feel like I took my chance well and I really enjoyed being out there.
Abou-Abdallah has been outstanding all season for the B Team and is just one of a few players who have earnt themselves a call-up to Karleigh Osborne’s First Team this season.
The B Team number 11 was extremely thankful to Osborne for giving her the opportunity to make her debut for his side on Sunday afternoon.
“I’ve been training with the First Team a lot recently which has allowed me to get used to the way that they try to play their football but to play a match with them is a whole different level.
“Karleigh has been really helpful in my development along with Tommy (Ryan-Maynard and Charlotte (Tanner) who coach the B Team and I just really appreciate being given this chance to show what I can do at a higher level.”
