Brentford have extended the loan Rob Kiernan from Wigan Athletic until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international first joined The Bees on loan in November and he made seven appearances before returning to Wigan.

Rob featured in both central defence and midfield and played a key role in Brentford’s win over Sheffield United in late November, helping to set up the first goal.

The 21-year-old signed on for a second loan spell earlier this month and played in the npower League One win against Oldham Athletic.

He has now agreed to stay at Griffin Park until the conclusion of the 2012/13 campaign.

Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Sporting Director, said: “We are delighted to secure Rob on loan until the end of the season.

“He is a player I have known from a young age.

“I have watched him grow technically, tactically and physically in to a very consistent performer.

“He has a real appetite for the game, he is so keen to learn and he has huge development potential left in him.

“It is a pleasure to work with Rob and we look forward to some very good performances in the months ahead.”
