Australia's final match in the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup for Australia ended in defeat yesterday. Brentford B forward Lachlan Brook is in the Australia squad for the event. But he could not prevent defeat to Japan yesterday in Uzbekistan.

Australia made it to the last four of the event, but lost to Saudi Arabia earlier in the week. That gave them a Third-Place Play-Off against Japan yesterday, Saturday 18 June. Saudi Arabia face hosts Uzbekistan in the final later today.

Japan took the lead early on and then grabbed a second before half-time. Lachlan came in to make his sixth appearance in the tournament in the second period but could not find a way to help Australia back in to the game. Japan sealed the win with a third goal just past the hour mark.

Lachlan spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Adelaide United in his native Australia. He played 19 times as they reached the final stages of the A-League. Adelaide lost in the Semi-Finals of the event so it has been a period of near misses for Lachlan.
