THE GROUND

Meadow Lane Nottingham NG2 3HJ

Meadow Lane has been home to Notts County for over 100 years, having moved from Trent Bridge - home of Nottingham CCC - late in 1910.

The ground, also home to Nottingham RFC, holds more than 21,000 but capacity is currently just over 17,000.

All four sides of the ground were redeveloped in the early 1990s and they remain four separate stands.

Away fans are currently housed in a section of the Jimmy Sirrel Stand, named after the man who managed both Brentford and County, on the opposite side of the ground to the main Derek Pavis Stand.

THE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

It is approximately 130 miles from Griffin Park to Meadow Lane by road.

THE FIXTURES

The Bees will travel to The Magpies on Saturday December 15.

Brentford will welcome Notts County to Griffin Park on Saturday March 29.

THE RECENT HISTORY

The Magpies narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season due a fine run of form under new manager Keith Curle after the club sacked Martin Allen.

A run of seven wins in nine league matches from the end of January put them into contention but a shock home defeat to Bury in April meant The Magpies missing out on goal difference to Stevenage.

Notts County survived by the skin of their teeth in 2010-2011, their first season back in the third tier.

County won League Two in 2010 to end six years in the bottom tier in a season full of headlines.

The Magpies were taken over by a Middle Eastern consortium in the summer of 2009 and former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson was brought in as Director of Football.

Eriksson's fellow Swede Hans Backe was appointed manager and former England international Sol Campbell was signed, although he only played one game.

Peter Trembling, who had been executive chairman, bought the club but sold it to Ray Trew with The Magpies on the verge of administration.

THE MANAGER

Keith Curle was appointed Notts County manager in February 2012 after the dismissal of Martin Allen.

Curle had previously been assisting Neil Warnock at Queens Park Rangers as coach, a successful partnership that led to the Rs winning promotion to the Premier League in 2011.

He started his managerial career at Mansfield Town in December 2002, which eventually led to legal action by Curle, who won a case for wrongful dismissal in the High Court.

Spells at Chester City as manager and Torquay United as head coach followed before a coaching position at Crystal Palace in 2007, where he linked up with Warnock for the first time.

THE TOP SCORER

Ulsterman Jeff Hughes rounded off a fine season in midfield for The Magpies as top goalscorer from 45 league matches.

The 27-year-old, signed on a Bosman from Bristol Rovers last summer, scored thirteen goals to add to his previous career tally for Bristol Rovers, Peterborough United and Lincoln City.

THE KEY MEN

Keith Curle has begun to dismantle the team put together by his previous incumbents, giving free transfers to several high earners, including Robert Burch, Ishmel Demontagnac, Karl Hawley, Jude Stirling, Stephen Hunt, Jon Harley, Liam Chilvers , John Spicer, and George Nicholas.

A quartet of ex-Brentford players in Stuart Nelson, Sam Sodje, Ben Burgess and Martin Allen's son Charlie were also released, making a total of 13 players leaving Meadow Lane this summer.

There have been four replacements so far.

Replacing Nelson as first-choice goalkeeper is Bartosz Bialkowski who spent six years at Southampton before his release this summer.

Striker Enoch Showunmi, a free transfer for Tranmere Rovers, is well-travelled and remembered by Brentford fans most for his hat-trick against the club at Luton Town in February 2004.

His previous clubs include Bristol City, Leeds United and Falkirk and a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

He also gained international honours with Nigeria eight years ago, winning two caps.

Gary Liddle was surprisingly released from Hartlepool United after nearly 250 league appearances for the Club.

Curle offered the ex-Middlesbrough midfielder, who can also play in defence, a two-year deal.

Dean Leacock moved to Meadow Lane signing a two-year contract on a Bosman from Leyton Orient.

The 28-year-old defender spent six years at Derby County after starting his career at Fulham.
