THE GROUND

Fratton Park Frogmore Road Portsmouth Hants PO4 8RA

Fratton Park has been Portsmouth's home since their formation in 1898.

It is one of the largest surviving stadiums relatively untouched by the enforcement of the Taylor Report in 1990, as only one stand - the Milton End - has been built since then.

Away fans are housed in one side of the Milton End, with space for around 2000 supporters.

Scottish architect Archibald Leitch was famed for his new stadium commissions in the early part of the 20th century, and designed the South Stand, built in 1929.

THE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

It is approximately 87 miles from Griffin Park to Fratton Park by road.

The usual route would involve taking the M4, M25, M3, M27 and M275.

Car parking for away supporters is restricted to streets around the stadium.

The nearest railway station to the stadium is Fratton, which is a ten minute walk away.

Portsmouth station is at least a 25 minute walk away.

The Supporters' Association will be running coaches to every game this season - details of times and prices will be announced in due course.

THE FIXTURES

Brentford will welcome Portsmouth to Griffin Park on Tuesday November 6.

The Bees will travel to Fratton Park on Saturday April 13.

THE RECENT HISTORY

It's hard to think of a club in England that has a more turbulent off-pitch recent history than Portsmouth.

The FA Cup success of 2008 seems a long time ago, with two administrations and two relegations since bringing Pompey back into the third tier for the first time since 1983.

With top earners draining what will be League One's highest wage bill, moving their high earners will be a proirity in the coming weeks.

THE MANAGER

Michael Appleton arrived from West Bromwich Albion with the reputation of being one of the brightest young coaches in the game.

The former Manchester United midfielder retired early due to injury in 2003 and spent eight years on the Albion staff before taking charge at Fratton Park in November 2011.

THE TOP SCORER

David Norris scored eight goals to become Portsmouth's top goalscorer last season.

The 31-year-old signed for Pompey last summer after three years at Ipswich Town, making 106 appearances and scoring thirteen goals, but Plymouth Argyle is where he has spent the majority of his career so far.

THE KEY MEN

Portsmouth's pre-season preparation is in one of flux.

Leaving Fratton Park this summer were Jason Pearce (Leeds United), Joel Ward (Crystal Palace), Stephen Henderson (West Ham United) with Ricardo Rocha, Jamie Ashdown and Benjani yet to find a club.

The administrators accepted an offer from Portpin to take over the club as late as late week; no transfer activity of note has taken place.

PFA Chairman Gordon Taylor has warned both club and players will need to compromise if the club's wage bill is to be lowered to enable to trade profitably.

Four ex-scholars have signed for the coming season, Isle of Wight trio George Colson, Elliot Wheeler and Dan Butler plus 18-year-old Ashley Harris has also signed a professional contract.

Defender Greg Halford made 42 League appearances in Portsmouth's relegation season.

The ex-Colchester United, Reading, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender has been with Pompey since October 2010, initially on loan.

33-year-old Hayden Mullins helped Reading to Promotion via a loan spell last season but still managed to clock up 34 appearances for his relegated parent club.

The midfielder started with Crystal Palace before a move to West Ham United in 2003, where he spent six years, moving to Portsmouth in January 2009.
