Lewis Macleod continued his recovery from injury with nearly 80 minutes in the Development Squad’s 3-2 victory over Cardiff City yesterday afternoon.

The midfielder was pleased to come away with a win, especially after such a hard match in the relentless wind and driving rain at Jersey Road.

“It was a scruffy game,” said Lewis. “I think we started off well and got the goal quite early.”

“We settled down and maybe towards the end of the first half it got a bit scrappy. At the start of the second half, with the wind and the pitch being a bit heavy, it became scrappy again.”

Macleod echoed the comments of Head Coach Kevin O’Connor after the game, seeking improvement even when the result goes your way. That includes matches enclosed by the stands at Griffin Park and the wide open fields of the training ground.

“It’s a lot different when you’ve got the stadium around you, and the conditions definitely affected the game. We kept going down one side a lot because it was quite difficult to switch the ball so that cut off that outlet. We’re delighted to win but we know it can always be better. I’m pleased to get the win and another 77 minutes under my belt.”

Game time has been the main focus for the Scottish 21-year-old, who is taking his time not to rush himself back into contention.

“I feel good, it’s been quite stop-start in the last month or two so I’m just happy to get another game under my belt and hopefully push on," said Lewis.

“I’ll leave it to the gaffer and the coaches to see when they think I’m ready but I feel good in myself and maybe a few more games and I should be fine. It’s been a year so I want to get as fit as I can and hopefully get some games, ease my way back into the First Team and start getting involved.”
