Fin Stevens helped Oxford United progress in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night before coming out on the wrong side of Saturday’s promotion clash with Peterborough United.

Stevens played the final 30 minutes as Tyler Goodrham’s goal saw off Forest Green Rovers and booked Oxford’s spot in the last 16 of the competition.

However, it was a different story on Saturday at the ABAX Stadium. Peterborough struck twice before the break and added a third in second-half stoppage-time to drop Oxford to sixth in the table following a third winless outing.

Stevens played the full 90 minutes for the U’s who will look to return to winning ways at Reading on Tuesday night. They then host Burton Albion at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

Paris Maghoma played 45 minutes on Tuesday night, helping Bolton Wanderers also make EFL Trophy progress with a 2-0 win over Port Vale.

Dion Charles opened the scoring after nine minutes with Carlos Mendes Gomes scoring a second midway through the second half.

Second in League One, Bolton head to leaders Portsmouth tonight for a huge clash live on Sky Sports.

Ryan Trevitt couldn’t prevent Exeter City falling to another defeat on Saturday, this time at the hands of Port Vale.

Oliver Arblaster scored the only goal just before the half-hour mark as Exeter finished with 10 men following Will Aimson’s stoppage-time dismissal.

Exeter remain two points above the drop zone ahead of their trip to Stevenage next weekend.

Matt Cox played both games for Bristol Rovers this week.

On Tuesday their participation in the EFL Trophy came to an end following a 2-1 defeat at Crawley Town.

Tristan Crama also played 45 minutes in that game but was then an unused substitute on Saturday as the Gas took a point from their home game against Cheltenham Town with a 1-1 draw.

Rovers’ rearranged FA Cup trip to Crewe Alexandra comes on Tuesday night before a trip to Bolton at the weekend.

Ben Winterbottom was fit enough to return to the matchday squad for Welling United’s FA Trophy tie at home to Brackley Town on Saturday. The Wings progressed 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Daniel Oyegoke remains sidelined for Bradford City due to a shoulder injury. In his absence, the Bantams beat Liverpool Under-21s 4-0 in the EFL Trophy before seeing their League Two clash at home to Salford City fall foul of the weather on Saturday.
