It was a good week for Matt Cox and Tristan Crama, the pair making Emirates FA Cup progress last Tuesday before getting the better of Paris Maghoma and Bolton Wanderers in Sky Bet League One on Saturday.
Cox and Crama both played 90 minutes in the 4-2 second-round victory over Crewe Alexandra in midweek, which set up a third-round tie at Norwich City in the new year.
They then both also played the entirety of Saturday’s 2-1 win over high-flying Wanderers at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
John Marquis and Antony Evans gave Rovers a two-goal lead going into half-time. 10-man Bolton, who had Ricardo Santos sent off after 33 minutes, pulled one back late on through Eoin Toal but it wasn’t enough.
Maghoma played an hour for Bolton, having also played 65 minutes on Monday in Wanderers’ 2-0 defeat at top-of-the-table Portsmouth.
Those consecutive defeats dropped Bolton to fifth while in-form Rovers, who have just one league defeat in eight, are up to 11th.
This weekend’s action sees Bristol Rovers head to Blackpool while Bolton host Leyton Orient.
One of the sides to capitalise on Bolton’s defeats this week were Fin Stevens’ Oxford United who took four points from their two games.
Stevens played 90 minutes on Tuesday night in United’s 1-1 derby draw away at Reading before an impressive outing on Saturday saw him named in the WhoScored.com League One Team of the Week.
Stevens played a key role in the U’s 3-0 victory at home to Burton, a result which lifted United from fifth to third ahead of Saturday’s trip to Northampton Town.
Ryan Trevitt and Exeter City arrested their slide down the table with a creditable point away at high-flying Stevenage.
Without a league win since September, Exeter looked on their way to another defeat when Carl Piergianni headed Stevenage ahead in first-half stoppage-time. That goal coming three minutes after Jack Aitchison was shown a second yellow card.
However, the 10 men levelled after the break through Yanic Wildschut to earn a point which keeps the Grecians one place above the relegation zone heading into Friday’s trip to Cambridge United.
With Daniel Oyegoke still out, Bradford City won 2-0 at Gillingham in Sky Bet League Two while a Ben Winterbottom-less Welling United were beaten by the same scoreline at home to Eastbourne Borough in the National League South.
