It’s been a mixed festive period so far for Brentford's five loan players in Sky Bet League One, with only one of the five remaining unbeaten over their two games either side of Christmas.

That honour goes to Paris Maghoma who helped Bolton Wanderers move back up to third with a pair of victories over Leyton Orient and Lincoln City.

Maghoma was an unused substitute in the Trotters’ 3-2 win over Orient last Saturday, a game they led 3-0 after 10 minutes, before starting on Boxing Day as Eoin Toal’s 89th-minute goal handed them victory over 10-man Lincoln City.

Bolton head to Fleetwood on Friday night before hosting Burton Albion on New Year's Day.

Hot on Bolton’s heels are Fin Stevens and Oxford United following their dramatic Boxing Day victory at home to Cambridge United.

Ciaron Brown’s 95th-minute goal handed the U’s all three points in a 2-1 victory at the Kassam Stadium. It also made up for their defeat to Northampton Town three days earlier by the same scoreline, the Cobblers scoring a 97th-minute winner in that game.

Stevens played the full 90 minutes in both matches with fifth-placed Oxford at home to Derby County on Friday night before heading to Charlton on New Year’s Day.

There was also late drama for Matt Cox and Tristan Crama on Boxing Day; Bristol Rovers netting a 94th-minute winner through Luke Thomas to defeat top-of-the-table Portsmouth.

The two sides traded second-half strikes through Antony Evans and Paddy Lane before Thomas turned match-winner.

That victory saw the Gas bounce back from their 3-1 pre-Christmas defeat at Blackpool.

Cox played the full 90 minutes in both games while Crama played all but three minutes of the two matches.

Up to 10th in the table, Rovers host Charlton on Friday night before beginning 2024 at Wycombe Wanderers.

Ryan Trevitt was forced off after 14 minutes during Exeter City’s 2-0 defeat at Cambridge United on Friday night.

With the extent of the injury unknown, he missed the Grecians’ much-needed 1-0 Boxing Day win at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

That first success in 13 opened up a three-point cushion to the relegation places ahead of a visit from Portsmouth and trip to Reading this weekend.

Daniel Oyegoke missed both of Bradford City’s games this weekend due to a long-term shoulder issue. The upwardly mobile Bantams closed the gap to the top seven to just three points with a 3-1 win at Doncaster Rovers and 2-2 draw at home to Morecambe.

Ben Winterbottom also missed both Welling United’s games over Christmas; a 4-0 defeat at Bath City and 1-0 loss at home to Dartford leaving them eight points from safety in 22nd.

The Wings play the reverse fixture away at Dartford this Saturday.
