Mark Warburton has been named as the new Manager of Brentford Football Club.

Mark first arrived at Griffin Park in February 2011 as Interim First Team Coach, working alongside Nicky Forster following the departure of Andy Scott.

He was appointed as Sporting Director in the summer of 2011 and took overall responsibility for the football side of the Club.

Working alongside Uwe Rösler, Mark helped build a First Team squad that finished third in League One last season and then lost the League One Play-Off Final.

He has also overseen the opening of a new Category Two Football Academy and built a support team of medical, analysis, conditioning and kit management staff among the best in the country.

Uwe Rösler left his position as Brentford Manager on Saturday to take up the same role at Wigan Athletic.

Mark was asked by Club Owner Matthew Benham to take over, at least until the end of the current season, and he has agreed.

The Club are considering a replacement for Mark’s current Sporting Director position.

Mark will lead a Brentford team currently fourth in Sky Bet League One, behind third-placed Preston North End on goal difference, and six points off the top.

Cliff Crown, Brentford FC Chairman – who also acts as Chief Financial Officer and business adviser to a number of companies in which Matthew Benham has a financial interest, said: “Matthew was very clear about what he wanted.

“We have done very well this season with a squad Mark has helped to assemble and with the existing coaching and back room staff.

“We believe Mark will offer continuity at a key time and enable us to build on the past two and a half years.

“Mark’s coaching credentials are without question, he is highly qualified to deal with both professionals and our young players.

“Mark has a commitment to blooding young players in to the First Team and to the Academy and that remains important for the Club’s development.

“Mark has done an exceptional job as Sporting Director since taking that role 30 months ago and we are happy he can step in to this new role seamlessly.

“We believe it will help the players and staff to work with someone they know and respect and we look forward to continuing success for Brentford Football Club.”
