In every Brentford FC match day programme, Sporting Director Mark Warburton writes a column updating supporters on issues at the Club and the wider football world.
On Saturday, in the programme for the match against Oldham Athletic, Mark wrote about rumours in the media about Brentford’s playing budget.
He corrected misinformation about the amount of money available to Manager Uwe Rösler for the 2012/13 season.
The column is available below for any Bees fan who did not pick up a match day programme on Saturday.
The new Brentford FC match day programme costs just £3.
There seems to be many rumours and comments surrounding the playing budget available to Uwe and his staff at Brentford Football Club.
A variety of individuals appear keen to suddenly talk about the funds at the disposal of our Manager and the fact that we are now being referred to as one of the ‘big spending’ clubs in League One.
I hear suggestions that with the monies being spent, nothing short of automatic promotion must be regarded as a failure and - God forbid - we end up outside the top six Play-Off places, and so on.
All of this talk from sources, who have either poor information or a hidden agenda, does little to help Uwe and the staff.
So much work has been done to give the club a strong playing squad that we feel can undoubtedly challenge for a top six slot, whilst at the same time assembling a quality of support network that will best prepare the team for each and every fixture.
However, such ill-informed reports can undermine much of this good work and add un-necessary pressure to a group of people who are working tirelessly to give Brentford the success it deserves.
In addition, it is unfair to you, our supporters, who naturally rely on accurate reporting and interviews to gain a better understanding of the events at our club. We endeavour to give as much good information as possible, but again this can be undermined by false information.
Let me be very clear on the one key point:
The playing budget available to Uwe and his staff is totally un-changed to that which was made available to the previous permanent Manager.
Indeed, when Nicky Forster and I took over temporary control of the First Team in early February 2011 - with the team lying in 18th place in the division - the funds left available for us to bring in loan players was the balance of monies left over from the same starting budget as we had at the start of this season - 2012/13.
We have a sensible playing budget given to us by an owner and Board who all share the same ambitions for the club.
However, financial common sense must always be demonstrated in the difficult economic climate currently in place.
The key aspect for you the supporters is how the funds are utilised and are they being best spent on a playing squad which can indeed take us to the next level.
We all hope that you see a strong playing squad with quality in all areas all under the control of a manager and staff who are striving to deliver the type of performances that are enjoyable, exciting and of course rewarding.
All football managers are naturally under extreme pressure, this is a results driven business.
It is therefore totally unfair and indeed totally unacceptable for any misinformed individuals to add unnecessary pressure to an already tough working environment.
Uwe and his staff deserve all of our support and I hope that the information given to you today at least clarifies the financial situation and reinforces the message that we are all one team working together with the same aim.
Enjoy the game!
