THE OPPOSITION
Barnet have struggled to adapt to life in the National League following relegation, not helped by a crippling injury-list and a back-log of fixtures. Darren Currie's side head into tonight's game 17th in the table, five points above the drop zone but with five games in hand on some teams around them.
A 4-0 defeat to Braintree Town last time out was their first under Currie and ended a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Included in that four-game run was The Bees' Third Round victory at Bramall Lane against Sky Bet Championship high-flyers Sheffield United.
Shaq Coulthirst got the only goal against The Blades taking his tally to six for the season, joining Wesley Fonguck at the top of The Bees' scoring charts.
TEAM NEWS
Barnet have a number of absentees tonight with midfielder Charlee Adams and first-choice goalkeeper Mark Cousins both suspended. Will Huffer joined on loan from Leeds United last week and he will compete with West Ham United loanee Rihards Matrevics for the starting goalkeeper spot. Medy Elito and Josh Walker were also stretchered off in last week’s 4-0 loss to Braintree.
Thomas Frank has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from with only Emiliano Marcondes and Lewis Macleod set to miss out.
THE MANAGER
Darren Currie was handed the permanent reins at Barnet last week after taking temporary charge late last month. The midfielder enjoyed a 20-year playing career which took in 15 clubs. He is best remembered for three-year spells at Barnet and Wycombe Wanderers in the late 90s and early 2000s. He hung up his boots in 2013, having made nearly 700 professional appearances, scoring 77 goals.
Currie began his coaching career with Dagenham and Redbridge, the club he finished his playing career with, and was promoted to assistant manager in February 2013. In December 2015, Currie became caretaker manager after Wayne Burnett was sacked. After two games in charge, Currie returned to his role as assistant after the return of John Still. In June 2018, Currie returned to Barnet as assistant manager, once again as assistant to Still. Following Still's retirement on 28 December 2018, Currie took over as caretaker manager of the Bees, a position he took on permanently last week.
