Brentford were beaten 1-0 by Huddersfield Town after a tight encounter between two evenly matched sides at Griffin Park on Saturday 2 November.

The only goal came in the second half, a low strike from Karlan Grant after an hour was all that could separate the two teams.

Going in, The Bees were unchanged from their 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers on Monday night, as were visitors Huddersfield after their own victory over Barnsley last weekend. The first half was a mixed one for the home side as the rain came down in West London, chances at both ends but no goals.

The first real chance came after six minutes, Christian Norgaard shooting over from the edge of the box after receiving a lay-off from Josh Dasilva.

With 10 minutes gone, Said Benrahma escaped two markers on the left to play in Rico Henry. The fullback's cross was almost met by Ollie Watkins but Jaden Brown nodded clear.

On 20 minutes, Tommy Elphick seemed incredibly fortunate to get away without a yellow card when he stopped Watkins racing through the middle of the park. Instead, referee Robert Jones gave the Town defender a stern talking to.

Four minutes later, Watkins was this time penalised for hand-ball in the box. Despite getting his shot away after a through ball from Benrahma, Mr Jones decided the ball had looped up onto his hand in the build-up.

David Raya was forced into a good save on 28 minutes, Frazier Campbell finding space inside the box to shoot low. The keeper got a strong left hand to it and pushed it beyond his left post.

With only five minutes to the break, Norgaard was left on the floor as The Terriers countered. Danny Simpson, one-time Premier League champion with Leicester City, swung in a cross but Pontus Jansson was there to nod it over his own crossbar.

With the visitors growing into the game, they could've opened the scoring just moments later. After the corner was cleared, it was drilled back across the face of goal. Karlan Grant swept it back across the six-yard box at the far post but there was Kamohelo Mokotjo to calmly knock the ball away from danger.

The half-time whistle blew with neither side able to break the deadlock. At the start of the second period, neither side opted for changes.

Benrahma had the best opening chance in the second 45. Getting space on the edge of the box, he whipped a shot just past the right post of Liverpool loanee Kamil Grabara, the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

With 50 gone, Benrahma then played a quick one-two with Watkins before shooting with power at goal. Grabara was able to get his body behind it and held on as Mbeumo lurked for cast-offs.

After 57 minutes, Brentford created their best chance of the afternoon. A deep cross from Henrik Dalsgaard found Julian Jeanvier, who headed it low towards goal. Grabara was down quickly to palm it around the post.

Then, 61 minutes in, Huddersfield scored. Karlan Grant dribbled inside from the left, escaped Dalsgaard - caught between two Town players to mark - and drove the ball low into the bottom right corner.

A double change on 69 minute inspired a push from The Bees, sub Joel Valencia immediately providing a cross that nearly reached Watkins. Valencia then recycled the play to find Mbeumo, who dinked his cross into the box, Grabara reacting quickly to punch it away from Watkins' head.

Town could have doubled their lead after 83 minutes, the ball pulled back into the box by Diakhaby only to be cleared away by Norgaard. Moments later, Diakhaby was in himself, only to clip a low shot narrowly wide of Raya's right post.

In the second minute of six added on at the end, Benrahma was brought down mid-air by Elphick, who was then booked. The following free-kick from the Algerian was sent over the crossbar from 30 yards out.

A minute later, Benrahma forced a save from Grabara as he took aim from a bizarre angle. Shaping to cross, he went for the near post and the Polish keeper had to scramble back to punch the effort away.

With 60 seconds to play, Dalsgaard found Benrahma on the edge of the box but the shot that followed fizzed wide of the post.
