Brentford B claimed a well-deserved 2-0 win over AFC Bournemouth Under-21s on Wednesday afternoon at Jersey Road. The goals came in the second half from midfielder Alex Gilbert and central defender Tristan Crama in what was a performance of positives for the young Bees.

The game had 20 minutes to play when Gilbert was found by one of the trialists before he slotted home with his right foot. Crama then made sure the win was safe right at the end as he headed home from a Gilbert corner in stoppage time.

The B Team were once again able to call upon first team player Kristoffer Ajer as he continues his return to full fitness and there were also places in the starting line-up for young first teamers in Matthew Cox and Fin Stevens in a game which the Bees controlled for large spells.

It was Brentford who started brightly with some good play on both flanks with Val Adedokun involved as he made a return from injury. The Irishman’s corner on 12 minutes was flicked towards goal by forward player Kyreece Lisbie but for the goalkeeper’s intervention. A couple more chances came shortly after when Gilbert drove forward and threaded the ball through to Yehor Yarmoliuk but the chance was cleared before the Ukrainian could get a shot away. An Angel Wariuh lofted pass from the edge of the box also found its way to Adedokun but for the keeper to make another stop.

Stevens was next to try his luck on 30 minutes when a really good move saw Gilbert set Lisbie away down the left. The youngster cut inside with the ball before teeing up the onrushing Stevens, but his side footed effort was just wide of the left-hand post as the sides went in level.

It was much the same after the break as 16-year-old Isaac Holland fashioned a good chance just a minute after the restart. He tried his luck from the edge of the box with a powerful attempt, but he was unable to keep his effort on target as it edged just over. A Lisbie header then followed up a couple of shots from Gilbert and Yarmoliuk.

The opener then came on 68 minutes as the Bees got their deserved lead when one of the substitute trialists threaded a brilliant ball through into the path of Gilbert, who composed himself well, before slotting inside the right-hand post.

The Bees continued to manage the game as the opponents were frustrated, and though they had spells in possession, were unable to threaten on too many occasions to get back into the game with the defence giving very little away. A chance did present itself late, though, when they won the ball high before Dominic Sadi struck powerfully and forced Cox into a smart save.

The win was then safe moments before the full-time whistle as Crama rose well to nod the ball home from an expert delivery from Gilbert which makes it back-to-back wins for the young Bees.
