The First-Team weren’t able to build on last week’s Capital Women’s Cup victory as they fell to a 5-1 defeat against Islington Borough Ladies at St Aloysius’ Playing Fields. The league’s top scorer Ornella Mbula netted one of the home side’s two first-half goals as they led at the interval; Jodie Reid’s third of the season sandwiched in-between for The Bees.
After the break, the hosts took control as The Bees began to lose their shape, and discipline, at times. Mbula took her total to 12 for the season with a second while Ellie Sherrard-Smith completed a brace. Chloe Copsey netted the other for the home side as Justin Ali and Nathan Mobey’s side suffered a fourth defeat in five Greater London Women’s Football League Division One matches.
Next Sunday sees The Bees host Hampton and Richmond Borough Ladies at Bedfont Sports, kick-off 2.30pm, looking to avenge last month’s 4-1 league defeat at the hands of The Beavers.
The Development Team put up a spirited effort against runaway Division Two North leaders Walton Casuals FC Ladies before falling to a 7-3 defeat. Shannon Read netted both The Bees first-half goals as the two sides went in level at Kempton Cricket Club. However, despite Read going on to complete her hat-trick after the break, Casuals had too much for The Bees as they kept up their perfect record this campaign.
Will Blithing’s side will look to break their league duck next Sunday with a trip to Clapham Common to take on Clapham United Reserves, kick-off 11am.
