Yoane Wissa bagged a brace as Brentford beat Bournemouth 3-2 in the Premier League at Gtech Community Stadium.

The Bees twice came from behind before Wissa, latching on to Vitaly Janelt’s piercing through ball, expertly lifted over Kepa to score the winning goal just before the hour mark.

Thomas Frank made one change to the side that lined up against Fulham in midweek: Mathias Jensen came in for Mads Roerslev.

It was the visitors who looked most threatening during the opening stages.

Ryan Christie wove between Brentford’s defenders in a crowded penalty area before flashing across the face of goal.

Christie then swept the ball out to Antoine Semenyo on the right, who cut in and tested Mark Flekken with a well-struck low drive.

Marcos Senesi passed up a huge chance on 15 minutes, blazing over from almost underneath the crossbar having made a clever run to meet Lewis Cook’s superb cross.

But Bournemouth were rewarded for their pressure moments later: Sepp van den Berg’s backpass lacked power, leaving Evanilson to collect the loose ball, round Flekken and roll into an empty net.

Brentford responded well to falling behind. Mikkel Damsgaard’s disguised pass gave Janelt a clear sight at goal, and the German’s low strike was held by Kepa.

The Bees were then back on level terms. Mathias Jensen’s long throw led to pinball inside the six-yard box. Milos Kerkez’s initial header was more up than out, Tyler Adams failed to clear at the second attempt, and Wissa was perfectly positioned to nod beyond Kepa and into the far corner.

Shortly after the restart, Cook, teed up by Evanilson, dragged wide from the edge of the box.

The second half began at a frantic pace.

Christie chested down Justin Kluivert’s deep cross and worked some space for a shot at goal, but Nathan Collins – as he so often has done this season – sensed the danger and made a brave block.

The Cherries were back in front on 49 minutes. A well-rehearsed corner routine saw the ball worked into the box and Cook threaded a pass through to Kluivert who slammed home.

The visitors’ lead lasted less than a minute: Bryan Mbeumo spotted the run of Damsgaard and the Dane struck early to beat Kepa from a tight angle.

The Bees, buoyed by their Damsgaard’s first Premier League goal, added another just before the hour mark.

Janelt created some space for Lewis-Potter on the left with a clever feint and the ball was quickly moved on to him midway inside the Cherries’ half.

The midfielder cut open Bournemouth’s backline with a sublime through ball and Wissa dinked over the advancing Kepa to take his tally for the season to seven.

Mbeumo curled over the crossbar from close to the penalty spot, and Nørgaard and Jensen had efforts from the edge of the area held by Kepa, as Frank’s side pushed for a fourth.

Lewis-Potter’s cross was headed over the bar by van den Berg, and the defender later saw his shot from inside the six-yard box blocked after Ethan Pinnock nodded down Janelt’s free-kick.

Enes Ünal guided Kerkez’s cross wide of Flekken’s left post and Dean Huijsen’s header, connecting with a delivery from the same side, rattled the crossbar during seven minutes of stoppage time, but Brentford held on to extend their unbeaten run at Gtech Community Stadium to eight matches.

Frank’s side head into the international break on a high having dropped just two points from a possible 18 at home this season.

Frank: We were the only team on the pitch in the second half

Brentford head coach was delighted that the Bees were on the right side of a "crazy" game at Gtech Community Stadium.

"It was crazy, I must admit," Frank stated.

"The first 20 minutes, Bournemouth were better than us. We gave them the first goal - sometimes that happens - they had a few other chances but, after that, we scored a good goal and we grew into the game.

"In the second half, we were the only team on the pitch - we were clearly better. We created and scored two fantastic goals and kept Bournemouth to the bare minimum.

"I am very happy."

Wissa left wanting more after Bournemouth brace

Only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (19) has scored more non-penalty goals in the Premier League in 2024 than Yoane Wissa (15) – but the Brentford forward is not resting on his laurels.

I love being here, in front of the fans and the family,” he said.

“The atmosphere is crazy. Every time we come on the pitch, I know we can do something.

“I try my best to bring energy - I know I have a big role - and my job is to score some goals. Now I want more.”
