Brentford B forward Michael Olakigbe was delighted to claim his first goal for the young Bees as he helped the side to their 5-2 victory over Bedfont in the Middlesex Senior Cup on Wednesday.
The youngster netted one of a trio of second-half goals as they added to first-half goals from Kyreece Lisbie and Isaac Holland.
Discussing how it feels to be back upon his first start since returning to fitness, the 18-year-old said: “It’s great, I’m happy to score my first goal and to top it off with a win, I’m happy for myself and the team.
“At the start it was tough period for me [whilst injured]. The coaches helped to give me encouragement as well as the staff around the Club who have supported me. I feel like the hard work has paid off, I’ve got more minutes and to top it off with my first goal, it shows the hard work pays off.”
Looking at the game and how it panned out, Michael said the side reacted well after going behind when Sam Evans struck for the non-League side.
He continued: “We started the game off a bit slow but as it went on our tempo increased and we started to become more ruthless so I’m happy with our reaction.”
Having got his first goal on his first start, Michael is targeting more minutes and is excited to come into a group who haven’t tasted defeat since August.
“I’m looking forward to the games that we have coming up,” said the winger. “Everyone is happy and looking forward to playing against Peterborough [in the Premier League Cup] and hopefully winning. We want to go as far as we can in that competition because it’s a great one to be in. Everyone is excited and is working hard in training every day.”
