Michael began his refereeing career in 2001 on the local leagues in Preston thanks to the influence of his father Graham, who is a current EFL referee.
After progressing through the leagues, his first taste of the professional game came in 2010 as an Assistant Referee in the Football League.
Since then, Michael has officiated in eight different countries and visited Wembley Stadium six times, refereeing the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final last June which saw Charlie Goode and Northampton Town run out 4-0 winners against Exeter City.
Last summer also saw him appointed to the Select Group Two of Sky Bet Championship referees, taking charge of his maiden Bees game away at Luton Town in October.
So far this campaign, there have been 52 yellow cards, and one red, handed out in his 23 matches.
