Kamohelo Mokotjo played an hour as South Africa won the annual Nelson Mandela Challenge match yesterday afternoon. The midfield player was selected to start in the game by new South Africa coach Molefi Ntseki and helped his team to a 2-0 half time lead. Mali reduced the arrears, but South Africa took a 2-1 win.

The game was the first outing since the 2019 African Cup of Nations, where South Africa lost 2-1 to Nigeria at the quarter-final stage. Kamohelo played 90 minutes in four of their five matches in the competition and won his 21st cap yesterday afternoon. Kamohelo will return to West London ahead of this weekend’s match against Millwall and has won 14 caps since joining The Bees in 2017. He sits third on the list of most international caps won while at Brentford.

Meanwhile, Brentford B goalkeeper Simon Andersson started for Sweden Under-18 as they beat Finland yesterday. Sweden had two Under-18 games during this international period and followed up a draw with Iceland with yesterday’s victory. They took a 1-0 lead at half-time and added two more after the break to secure a comfortable win. Simon has now won four caps at Under-19 level to go with 16 at Under-17.
