Brentford Women’s Mollie Holmes tried to remain in high spirits despite the side’s 3-2 defeat to Watford Ladies Development on the final day of the season.
The women’s first team midfielder was unable to help Brentford Women end the season with their seventh consecutive win as they were beaten by a late Watford Development goal as well as missing out on the league title.
Speaking on the loss, Holmes said: “It was a disappointing game, we didn’t start great but got ourselves back in it and then just made a few errors, I think tiredness came into it and unfortunately the game got away from us. We’re not going to dwell on it we need to take the positives from the game and the whole season which has been fantastic.”
Mollie was speaking after what looked like a tired second half performance for Brentford Women which allowed Watford Development to find a way back into the game following Nikki Woods’ and Chloe Logie’s strikes.
The home side equalised on 77 minutes and grabbed a winner eight minutes from time following a long-range effort.
Holmes continued: “I think we were in control for the first 25 minutes of that second half but after that Watford got a bit of momentum then we had to go chasing which caused us to leave ourselves open.
“I think tiredness played a part, we’ve had a long season and played near enough 30 games so I think that was a factor, we’re gutted we want to win every game we play in but we will move on.”
Brentford Women
Holmes expressed her pride in captaining her side in what she feels has been a successful season for Brentford women with a number of good moments to look back on.
“This year has been my favourite as a Brentford player, we had the Gtech game and the record crowd at Bedfont along with winning loads of games, at the end of the day we’re a football club and we want to win so it’s been amazing. We have a great group of girls and hopefully they stick around and we get some new additions in as well.
“We’ll take a little break now, let our legs rest then we’ll be straight back in for pre-season.”
