Bryan Mbeumo’s 92nd minute corner set France up for a dramatic 3-2 win over Georgia in Nancy. Bryan’s night started on the bench as Les Bleuets and Georgia traded four goals at the stade Marcel-Picot. He was introduced with seven minutes to play and sent in the corner from which Dan-Axel Zagadou was felled by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia; Odsonne Édouard converted from 12 yards to maintain France’s perfect record in Group B ahead of their trip to take on the also 100 per cent Swiss on Tuesday. The appearance was Bryan’s fourth at Under-21 level.
Mads Bech Sorensen saw red as Denmark kept up their perfect record in Group H with a 3-2 win over Ukraine in Lviv. It was a pulsating game at the Arena Lviv with The Danes cruising after a Robert Skov hat-trick. However, Nazariy Rusyn pulled one back before Mads was shown a straight red for a foul in the box. It looked an extremely harsh decision with the foul actually committed by right-back Andreas Poulsen. Heorhiy Tsitaishvili converted from the spot to set up a nervy final 17 minutes. Mads Roerslev then came on for the final eight minutes as Denmark saw out the game. The caps were the two Mads’ third at Under-21 level with Japhet Sery Larsen an unused substitute.
David Titov remained an unused substitute as ten-man Latvia’s winless run in Under-21 European Championship Qualifying was extended to five matches after a 2-0 defeat to Russia. The hosts took the lead in Rostov-On-Don after nine minutes through Igor Diveev with Latvia reduced to ten-men just before the half-hour, Daniel Balodis seeing red. Nail Umyarov made the game safe midway through the second-half as Latvia remain bottom of Group E. With no game next week, David will remain on two Under-21 caps heading into 2020.
Also an unused substitute on Friday was Ellery Balcombe as England made it four wins from four in Group C. Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher, and Reiss Nelson got the goals in Shkodër as Albania were swept aside. Ellery will hope to make his Under-21 debut on Tuesday as The Young Lions head to Holland for a friendly.
