Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane felt Friday’s win over Millwall Under-21s was a satisfying victory as his side battled to a clean sheet and put in a performance which merited the win.
Having played well against AFC Wimbledon earlier in the week the side were undone by a late goal from the League Two side but they bounced back with a victory at Jersey Road to round off the week.
He explained: “We played only a few days ago and to come out and put on that level of performance is really encouraging. In both games we’re starting to see what we’ve been working on at the training ground with and without the ball.
“Today we were excellently organised and when we got chances on the transition and on the counter-attack we just didn’t play the final pass with the right weight in the first half. We’re starting to look more and more solid and hopefully we will continue to improve in the coming weeks. It was a really important finish for us because it was a game that we were dominating. The other day we didn’t take our opportunities, but we did today, and as I’ve said to the players many times, games can be determined by set plays and it was today.”
The young Bees were able to welcome first team defender Kristoffer Ajer into the squad as he continued his recovery from injury by playing 60 minutes at Jersey Road.
Neil says he was delighted to welcome Kristoffer into his group to help him with his return to match action and he believed he was a real asset for the young players. He said: “We’re thrilled for him. He’s been out for a number of weeks through injury, and as has always been the case in my time here, when a player steps down from the first team they come with a terrific attitude, and he was brilliant in and around our very young group. He helped our young defenders in particular and drove the team on, it was a brilliant 60 minutes for him and that’s what it’s all about in terms of trying to help in whatever way we can for what lies ahead.”

The extra good news this week came in the form of a debut for B team midfielder Ryan Trevitt who earned his debut for Thomas Frank’s side in the Carabao Cup win at Colchester United. Neil says to see Ryan’s development since he arrived in West London with the Bees over the past two seasons is fantastic to see.
He explained: “That is what we come in every day for, to keep improving and the players work so hard to get those opportunities. As a staff we have pushed Ryan, but relationships are two ways and they have to be reciprocal, and he’s been outstanding ever since he came into our football club and its hugely satisfying to see him get on.”
