Brentford B defender Nico Jones feels the young Bees are developing all the time having claimed their second successive win over Bournemouth Under-21s earlier this week.
Neil MacFarlane’s group beat Millwall Under-21s last Friday before picking up another Jersey Road win against the Cherries as Alex Gilbert and Tristan Crama helped themselves to goals. At the other end of the pitch, Nico and his teammates earned their second clean sheet in as many games and the youngster feels things are going well for the team in the early stages of the season.
“I felt it was the first time that we played very well as a team,” said Nico. “We know that we’re building and that’s showing off in the games.
“Every single day it’s a clean sheet mindset in training to not concede goals and I think that’s showing in games.”
Nico was part of the side for the 2021/22 season as they claimed some impressive results over the course of last season as the group lifted the London Senior Cup as well as competed in tournaments overseas. Having seen a number of new faces enter the group this season, he feels things are getting better and better as the team begin to gel.
He continued: “It’s going very well, as a new team it started off a little bit shaky in pre-season but the work in training is helping us build that team chemistry. We’re watching back all of our games and focusing on what we can improve on as well as what we’ve done well.”
The past two matches for the B Team have seen Kristoffer Ajer step down from the first team as he continues to build minutes following injury. The opportunity to play alongside an experienced defender is something that Nico enjoyed and looked to learn from.
Nico continued: “He’s a leader, a natural leader, and he gives the rest of the team momentum and energy. He will help you tactically, maybe if I’m a little deeper than I should be, then he’ll really tell me to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
