Brentford central midfield player Nico Yennaris has signed a new contract, extending his stay with The Bees for a further four years. The 24-year-old put pen to paper today, Monday 12 June, on a new deal, which will expire in the summer of 2021. The former Arsenal man had two years to run on his current contract, signed in early 2016, but the energetic midfield player – who was ever-present for The Bees last season – has now committed his long-term future to the Club.Brentford signed Nico from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee in January 2014 and he is now one of the Club’s longest-serving players. He came through the ranks at Arsenal, having joined The Gunners at the age of seven, and signed his first professional deal in 2010, just after his 17th birthday. He played four games in total for Arsenal, including one in a Premier League game against Manchester United, and also had loan spells at Notts County and AFC Bournemouth. He represented England at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level and won ten caps in total.Nico played 12 games for The Bees in his first two seasons at the Club and spent the end of 2014/15 on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, helping them reach the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final. But since the middle of the 2015/16 season – first under Interim Head Coach Lee Carsley and then under current Bees boss Dean Smith – Nico has been a regular in the Brentford line-up. He played in every Brentford match in all competitions last season and contributed six goals.Dean Smith, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: "We are really pleased that Nico has agreed the contract extension. He has become an integral part of the team, as his appearances last season have shown. He is continuing to improve in all aspects of his game and is becoming an accomplished goal scoring midfielder in the Championship."In three-and-a-half seasons with The Bees, Nico has played 93 games in all competitions. He has made 86 of those appearances in the league and 78 of them in the Sky Bet Championship. Nico has scored eight goals for Brentford, all in the Championship, the last of which came in a 1-1 draw against West London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage.
