Brentford attacker Chiedozie Ogbene has joined Exeter City on loan for the first half of the season. The Nigerian-born Irish player, who can play across the front line, completed a move to the Sky Bet League Two side earlier today, Friday 31 August, just before the closure of the window for loan transfers. He will remain with the Devon side until 1 January 2019.
Chiedozie joined Brentford in January after a successful trial. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract after an undisclosed fee was agreed with League of Ireland side Limerick FC for his transfer. He made his Brentford debut in the win against Nottingham Forest in April and made one further appearance last season, against Hull City. He missed the first few weeks of the current season with an injury but appeared as a substitute against Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup win on Tuesday night.
Dean Smith, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “We are happy to let Chiedozie go out to Exeter to play matches and continue his development. He hasn’t had a lot of pitch time in the Championship and we feel that he can go and get some valuable games and experience with Exeter. It is important that it was to a club who share similar values and he has worked with Eric Kinder, Exeter’s Assistant Manager, previously at Limerick which will be of great benefit.”
Chiedozie moved to Ireland in 2005 and began his career with Cork City. He made his professional debut aged 18 on the final day of the 2015 league season and appeared eight times in the league the following season. He also featured twice off the bench, including an appearance in the Final, as Cork won the FAI Cup. He moved to Limerick in 2017 and made 32 league appearances for the Super Blues, 29 of them from the start, scoring eight goals.
