Those members of the Brentford family who died in 2020 will be remembered in the coming weeks. It has been a Brentford FC tradition for a minute’s applause to commemorate those that have left us in the past 12 months. This usually happens at the first home league match of the new year but, after discussions with BIAS, the Brentford Independent Association of Supporters, we will do it a little differently this year.
As all Bees fans know, we are currently unable to have any fans at our home games. The Covid-19 pandemic has prevented fans filling stadiums since March and we have held only two home matches in front of supporters since then, and only 2,000 were present at those games earlier this month. Government restrictions mean our games are currently behind closed doors until further notice.
With that in mind, the Club plans to hold our moment of remembrance later in January. The current planned date for the commemoration is Saturday 30 January when we face Wycombe Wanderers. The Club will communicate further if that date is changed.
It is hoped fans can be present for a minute of applause and our matchday programme will carry the names of those who fellow supporters wish to be remembered. To add a name to the remembrance list in the programme please email programme editor Chris Deacon – [email protected] – before 5pm on Friday 22 January. Emails should have the subject line Brentford Remembers 2020 to ensure they are gathered for inclusion. If you have a picture of the person concerned, please also include that as we may be able to display them at the stadium on the day.
