Patrik Gunnarsson has signed another seven-day emergency loan at Sky Bet League One side Southend United. The 19-year-old goalkeeper joined the Essex outfit last month on a seven-day loan and it has been extended for the second time. He played as they lost 3-2 to Burton Albion and then 2-1 to Oxford United. With Southend still unable to call on a fully fit senior goalkeeper, Patrik has been able to sign another seven-day deal.
Patrik is part of a Southend side currently second-from-bottom in League One, 17 points from safety with just ten games to go. Sol Campbellās side have lost their last six league games and have 18-year-olds Callum Taylor and Harry Seasen as their only fit keepers following the sale of Nathan Bishop to Manchester United and injury to Mark Oxley. Patrik should play when Southend face Bristol Rovers today.
Iceland international Patrik joined Brentford B in the summer of 2018, making 31 appearances for the B Team as they won the 2018/19 Middlesex Senior Cup. He also made his maiden Brentford appearance as a 75th-minute substitute during our 2-1 Sky Bet Championship victory over Middlesbrough last March. In June, Patrik signed a new four-year contract, with the option of a further year, before being officially promoted into the First Team squad in September.
