Brentford have agreed a deal to bring striker Paul Hayes to Griffin Park from Charlton Athletic.
The Dagenham-born 28-year-old, probably best known for his goal scoring exploits at Scunthorpe United, signed a three-year deal with The Bees this morning after leaving the South London side.
Uwe Rösler, Brentford Manager, said: “We are delighted to finally get Paul; it was a long battle to get him.
“Without Paul’s commitment and desire to want to play for Brentford, the deal would not have happened.
“It is fantastic to see a player like Paul prepared to make sacrifices to join us and it is pleasing for me that he believes in what we want to achieve.
“I know that Paul wants to join us for the right reasons and I thank him for that.
“Paul will bring us quality and the experience of winning promotion three times from this league.
“The coaching staff and the players look forward to working with him.
“I always said I wanted more experience in the squad and we now have three experienced strikers.
“There will be good competition for places.”
Mark Warburton, Brentford Football Club Sporting Director, said: “We are delighted to secure a player of Paul’s ability and experience after many weeks of work.
“Paul is a proven player at League One and Championship level.
“He has experience of getting out of this division and proving himself at the higher level.
“He will add to the quality already in the squad.
“It is testament to Paul that he was determined to come and play football.
“We are looking forward to seeing him grace Griffin Park in the weeks and months ahead.
“He will benefit the squad and the coaching staff both on and off the pitch.”
Paul, who will wear the number 23 shirt at Brentford, started out at Norwich City but moved to Scunthorpe in 2002.
He spent six of the next eight seasons at Glanford Park and scored 74 goals for The Iron.
Paul also had spells at Barnsley, Huddersfield Town and Preston North End before joining Charlton last summer.
He scored three goals last year for The Addicks to help them on their way to the npower League One title, the third time he has won promotion from the third tier and his fourth promotion in total.
During a spell on loan at Wycombe Wanderers early in 2012, Paul scored six goals in six games.
Paul spoke to Bees Player after completing his move – a video interview will be available soon.
