Brentford Football Club have agreed a new partnership with Peckham Town FC.
The South London club, which has a senior team in the Kent County League, has signed an agreement to become an official partner.
As well as a First Team and Reserve Team, Peckham Town run youth teams from Under-seven to Under-16 level.
Under the new agreement, coaches from Brentford’s Academy will work with young players from Peckham Town and the best will be invited to join The Bees.
Brentford will also provide training for Peckham Town coaches and equipment for the teams.
Shaun O’Connor, Brentford’s Head of Youth Recruitment, conceived and set up the partnership with Bryan Hall, the founder and Chairman of Peckham Town.
Shaun said: “Peckham Town are a club I have been looking to set up an arrangement with for a number of years.
“Whenever I have seen a Peckham Town team it has played good football and contained good players.
“But the coaches at Peckham Town also ensure the boys enjoy their football and that is the most important thing.
“I go all over London watching players that may fit in to Brentford and I like what I have seen at Peckham Town.
“Their player development is on par with what you would see at some top level clubs.
“We can work with their coaches and their players and hopefully find young footballers to come in to Brentford Football Club.”
The move is part of Brentford’s drive to build one of the best Football Academies in the South East.
Last summer, the Club opened a Category Two Football Academy, under the new Elite Player Performance Plan.
Brentford’s youth development system is now rated ahead of many other London clubs and being in Category Two enables Bees teams to play games against some of the biggest clubs in the country.
Bryan Hall said: “I have always been looking to establish a link with a professional club.
“We are located close to Charlton Athletic, Millwall and Crystal Palace but when I met Shaun everything fell in to place.
“He wanted to do the same things, in terms of the development of young players that we do.
“We hope all the players at all levels can get involved.
“This partnership will give our players stability.
“If they are good enough they will get a chance with Brentford.
“Parents ask us which club we are partnered with, now we can tell them we work with Brentford.
“It will be great for the coaches, who will get education from some of the best around, and for the players.
“There is a route in to a professional academy for them.
“And those who end up playing football just for enjoyment, they will improve because our coaches will improve.”
Ose Aibangee, Brentford’s Director of Youth Development, added: “Finding the best players possible to come in to the Club requires a lot of work.
“Setting up partnerships with well-run clubs is a good way for us to see the range of talent available.
“Peckham Town is a fantastic club – there is a lot to be admired about the way they coach their players and also develop them as people.
“This partnership gives us the best possible chance to find future professional footballers from that area.
“The Academy we are trying to create here will provide the best possible development both in a football and personal sense and everyone at Peckham Town trusts us to do the best by their children.
“We already have partnerships set up and we are starting to see results.
“We benefit by seeing more players and the clubs benefit as we provide support for them.
“I am sure the relationship will be great for all parties.”
