We're only a day away from the end of the pre-season training camp in Southern Germany. It's been a hot one yet training continues at a fast pace. As ever, Peter Gilham is on hand to give you his summary of the day's events.
Well we’re fast coming to the end of this pre-season training camp and, as suggested before, I would consider this the best we have been on. The locality, the hotel and all the facilities it offers and provides, the local football club, SV Aasen - who have played host to our training sessions and also host our friendly against RC Strasbourg Alsace - and of course the incredible weather have made it very memorable.
Today was again a scorcher albeit a degree or so below what many back home have been suffering. But it certainly added to the intensity of the warm-up session prior to the training itself. Having said that, it does make for a very pleasant short journey, by whichever means suit, through the wheat and corn fields to the ground.
Steven Pressley, having returned to the UK a couple of days ago, has had his ‘lollipop man’ title taken by Chris Domoney, who uses his good judgement to determine when it’s safe for us to the cross the main road, that divides the wheat/corn pathway and the grassy track to the ground.
This morning saw a regular format of medical prep at the hotel preceding the training session which started at the ground at 10.30. This involved the regular on pitch preparation before the coaches put the players through sessions which involved separating the offence and defence players prior to there being an 11 v 11 match.
Then it was back to the hotel for lunch and a few meetings before it was medical prep again followed by a final training session at 4.30 which included set pieces and a few individual sessions.
Dinner at 7.30 was again embellished by three “singing” performances by three players; Ryan Trevitt, Thomas Strakosha and Keane Lewis-Potter.
Youngster Ryan was first to get the dreaded call up from me and he ‘entertained’ us with Ed Sheeran’s “The A Team” which was ironic as Ryan is a product of the B Team.
Next up was Thomas who treated us to his version of a Brazilian song entitled “Ai, se eu tu pego” which you’ve probably guessed means ‘Oh, if I catch you’. As good as it was I personally thought it lacked the melody of Michel Telo’s 2012 original version!
Finally, it was our most recent signing Keane who gave his rendition of Uncle Kracker’s “Follow Me”, which was actually released the year before Keane was born. It was a valiant effort by all three but nothing to write home about, except of course I’ve included it within this blog which is quite ironic.
Anyway, today we can look forward to real entertainment but this time on the pitch.
