Brentford Director of Football Phil Giles has reflected on his seven years at the Club - and is targeting more success in future seasons.

Phil has been with the Bees since 2015 and, during his time in West London, the club have enjoyed some fantastic campaigns that have featured a run to an EFL Cup semi-final and promotion to the Premier League last year.

And, as well as thinking about the past, he is now looking ahead to next season and beyond.

Phil was asked about his time at the Club during a recent event with Bees United members.

“It’s been massively enjoyable,” he said.

“I think I'm actually quite experienced in the job right now. I've done it for quite a long time.

“I really like how we’re structured and how I can influence the Club and be part of it and help other people do their jobs well.

“Obviously I have a very good relationship with Matthew, which is very helpful.”

He continued: “Success is winning the Premier League but we’re probably not going to do that! What about qualifying for the Champions League, can we do that? It’s probably difficult.

“But maybe we can get into the Europa League or win a cup. It'd be nice to win a trophy.

“But it’s the usual story, we need a bit of luck, we need a good draw.

“We obviously got to the EFL Cup semi-final recently - we had to balance that, as a Championship side, against getting promoted.

“So, it'd be nice to win a trophy, that would be a good day out, wouldn’t it?”

Despite being Director of Football, Phil has revealed that watching games is no less nerve-wracking for him and admits that he struggles to watch tense games as much as supporters in the stands.

“Honestly, the most testing part of the job is sitting watching games - it's miserable!

“I often think when we’re at a game, we’re 1-0 up, we’re under pressure and we need to win, ‘What am I doing here? This is miserable, I could be having such a nice afternoon.’

“But we're all in the same boat on that one and you can't complain when you’re in the Premier League. And we asked to be here, nobody forced me to do this job so I can't complain about it. And most of it is enjoyable!”
