Brentford players have called on the people of West London to pack Griffin Park for the upcoming ‘Pay What You Can’ fixture against Shrewsbury Town and give them an extra boost.

The Club ran the ground-breaking and charity fund-raising ‘Pay What You Can’ ticketing initiative for a match against Stevenage last season and will be running the offer again for the Sky Bet League One match against Shrewsbury next Saturday, October 26.

The Stevenage game was originally due to be played in December and despite a postponement more than 7,000 turned up for the rearranged match.

In total, more than 10,000 tickets were sold for the fixture.

The Club also raised in excess of £3,300 for Sport Relief.

Central defender Tony Craig played in that game against Stevenage last year and also in the FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Chelsea in January, the biggest crowd at Griffin Park for more than 30 years.

He said the players relished the prospect of playing in front of a packed house.

Tony said: “I see the Club are promoting another initiative this season, similar to last, where fans can pay as little as £1 to watch our game versus Shrewsbury.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity for our fans to bring as many people along to a game and help swell the crowd for a cost they can decide.

“If we could create the same sort of atmosphere as we did last year in a number of games in front of big attendances it could make a tremendous difference to us as we are conscious of the atmosphere from the moment we warm up.

“So please help us by telling your friends and family of this great incentive.”

Under the ‘Pay What You Can’ initiative advance match tickets for Brentford fans are sold at the best price the supporter can pay.

The minimum price for a ticket is £1 and every ticket, whether for adult, senior, student or junior, in The Bees United Stand, The BIAS Stand and The Bill Axbey Stand is up for sale, except those already taken by Season Ticket Holders.

The Club also wants to raise money for charity at the same time so when more than £5 is paid for a ticket, 50 per cent of the excess, excluding VAT, will be donated to the charity Sport Relief.

George Saville, on loan at Brentford, from Chelsea, said he knew what it was like for an opposition player to step out in to a packed Griffin Park.

He was involved in the Chelsea squad for the FA Cup game last season and said he would love to play in a game with such an atmosphere.

George said: “Brentford Football Club is promoting a ‘Pay What You Can’ initiative for our game against Shrewsbury towards the end of this month.

“I saw what it means to have a packed Griffin Park crowd in full voice against the opposition when my own club Chelsea were here last season in the FA Cup.

“The atmosphere was electric and the buzz that it must have given the Brentford players is one I would love to witness first hand.

“So please spread the word about the tickets, which cost as little as £1, and let`s try and fill the ground.”

Almost two third of the available seats for the Brentford sections of the ground are now sold and hundreds more are being sold every day.

Those who want to buy tickets for groups of people to sit together are urged to buy immediately.

There are very few tickets left in Block D of The Bees United Stand and they are selling well in Block B and Block E.

There are just 300 seats left in the paddock, the lower tier of The Bees United Stand, and availability is extremely limited in central areas of The Bill Axbey Stand, on the New Road side of the ground.

Tickets for the Club’s Family Area are also selling well and more than half the tickets for the BIAS Stand terrace have been sold.

As tickets will be for reserved seats, further areas are short of seats together in the same row or block.

The Club advises supporters to buy now to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are already on sale and are limited to six per person.

Tickets will be available from the Club’s Ticket Office at Griffin Park, which is open from 10am until 4pm Monday to Friday.

They can bought in person or ordered by telephone on 0845 3456 442 – option 4.

They are also available online here.

Supporters need to enter a special promotional code to buy ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets online – more information can be found at Pay What You Can online ticketing details.

All tickets in The Bees United Stand and The Bill Axbey Stand will be for allocated seats in order to maximise the potential attendance.

The ‘Pay What You Can’ offer is available for advance tickets only and will not be available in the away end.

If any tickets remain on the day they will be sold on the turnstiles at normal match day prices.
