Pontus Jansson has been named in the squad for Sweden’s Euro 2020 qualifying double-header with Malta and Spain in the coming days. The Swedes travel to Malta on Saturday 12 October – in a game live on Sky Sports via the Red Button – before hosting current Group F leaders Spain at the Friends Arena on Tuesday 15 October and Pontus has been named as part of a 24-man squad.

Janne Andersson’s men sit second behind their Spanish counterparts with six games played. Last month, they beat the Faroe Islands 4-0, before a 1-1 draw with Norway, though Pontus was an unused substitute on both occasions. If Sweden do not make the top two, they will have the chance to qualify for the tournament via a play-off due to their performances in the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League.

Pontus has earned 22 caps for his country and has captained Sweden in the past year. He was part of the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and played in the Quarter Final defeat to England. He started for Sweden in their recent UEFA Euro 2020 qualification matches against Malta and Spain. Pontus also played for his country at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level.
