The next Brentford FC star could be just days from being discovered at open trials to be held this weekend. The Club’s Academy is running a two-day trial for players aged 16 to 21 this Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31. The exciting trials will see players come from far and wide to try and prove they can make the grade at Brentford’s Jersey Road Training Ground.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: "We offer players from all over the world an opportunity to showcase their talent. They will all get a chance to show us how good they are and the best will be scrutinised further to see if they are up to the level we need. We are proud of our scouting network and Brentford’s ability to spot and attract players but there are always some who slip through the net, develop late or who have been with other clubs and have not been able to play much football.

“These trials give us a chance to see some of those and we are always hopeful of finding a star. With clubs investing so much in finding players at a young age and bringing them through, it can be hard to get in to the professional game for older players. We don’t want to ignore this as a potential source of talent.”

The trial will see players put through their paces by the coaching team at Brentford’s Category Two Football Academy. The players will be working with some of the finest development coaches in London over the two days and every attendee will also be exposed to match scenarios.

There will be feedback after the game and the best will be invited to play in a match against Brentford's Elite Academy Squad. Anyone who reaches the required level will be invited back for further training with the chance to earn a professional contract with Brentford FC.

And even if there is not a chance immediately after the trial, there are other routes for players. The Club’s partnership with West Thames College enables players to study and play while they are developing their skills further.

Ose said: “We are able to offer different avenues for players, such as our elite college program which offers an education until the boy turns 18. This can be useful for us if an international player wants to study in the UK while he looks for a club.

“It is good for the players and his family and and it gives us an early detection on players from abroad where we don't have the resources to scout. Once they are old enough, we can offer a contract if they reach our standard."

Brentford FC charges a modest fee – £40 – for the trial.

Ose added: "A lot of organisations offer open trials with payments in excess of £80, we wanted to give people more opportunity and value by players paying half of that. All the coaches are at a UEFA licenced coaching standard and we encourage the players to ask as many questions as possible in order to get an expert feedback on developing strengths and weaknesses. During the weekend we offer full medical cover and there is feedback for every individual, as well as the chance to talk to our staff about fitness, nutrition and other way to improve.

“We do not hold open trials for players under the age of 16 as we feel it is incorrect to receive a payment from these younger age groups."

The best players this weekend will be hoping to secure a two-week trial at Brentford later this year, as others have done.

Ose said: "All coaches and staff look forward to these events as it gives us a chance to unearth a diamond in the rough that may have been completely missed by the system."
