Brentford B play their second match in the Atlantic Cup on Monday evening when they face AIK Fotboll in a 7:30pm kick-off.
The young Bees will come up against the Swedish side as they look for their first win in the competition in the Algarve. The match will be played at Estádio Municipal de Albufeira.
In opposition
The B team will face an AIK Fotboll side who are currently going through their pre-season programme ahead of the beginning of the new Allsvenskan season in April. Last season’s campaign saw the side finish fifth in the league table as they collected 50 points from their 30 games. AIK have also played one match so far in this season’s Atlantic Cup as they came up against Brøndby IF at the Estádio Algarve. The Danish side came out on top on the night despite Axel Björnström giving AIK the lead just after half-time. Daniel Wass and Simon Hedlund then sealed the win for Brøndby later in the match.
Neil MacFarlane’s thoughts
Following the defeat to Ulsan Hyundai, B team head coach Neil MacFarlane says his side can go into Monday night’s game with belief following a positive performance last time out. He said: “They’re (the players) frustrated but it should give them huge self-belief. We’re playing against really high level of opposition here and I think what is important in terms of our fixture programme in the Premier League Cup and the other games at our disposal in the last two or three months has really made us strong which is good to see. We’re battle hardened in terms of whatever opposition we come up against we can give them a really good game. Win, lose or draw we know we’re always going to be in a game as long as we’re pushing each other like we did tonight.”
Last time out
It was a narrow defeat for the B team in their first match in the Atlantic Cup on 2 February as a late strike from Ulsan Hyundai gave them the three points on the night.
