Brentford B will be aiming to keep up their brilliant run of form when they head to Italy on Tuesday 22 November as they face Serie B side Como 1907.
Neil MacFarlane’s side go into the match fresh from their Premier League Cup win over Peterborough United Under-21s as they head to Como looking to maintain an unbeaten run that reaches back to August this year.
In their way will be an Italian side who will aim to give players minutes as they prepare for a league fixture this Sunday. The match will be played behind closed doors at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia with kick-off at 3pm local time.
Last time out
It was a win last time out for the young Bees as they maintained their perfect start to life in the Premier League Cup with a 3-2 win over the Posh meaning they now sit top of the group on nine points having also beaten Under-21 sides from Blackburn and Aston Villa.
The goals at the Lamex Stadium against Peterborough came courtesy of an Alex Gilbert penalty whilst Ryan Trevitt also kept up his brilliant run of form with two second half goals.
About Como 1907
Como 1907 were last in action on 13 November when they drew 1-1 with Genoa away from home. Alberto Cerri got the equaliser as they came from behind to draw and cancel out Massimo Coda’s 17th minute penalty. Prior to that they beat Venezia 1-0. The side will face Bari this weekend on home soil as they aim to climb higher than their 18th place in the second tier of Italian football. They play their home matches at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia which has a capacity of more than 13,000. The Como squad also boasts former World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas, who of course turned out against the B Team last season whilst he was playing for AS Monaco.
Neil MacFarlane’s thoughts
B Team Head Coach Neil MacFarlane has been full of praise for his young side as they continue to pick up positive results. Looking ahead to the test in Italy, which is the side’s first match overseas this season, he is looking forward to seeing what his side can come up with as they head into the game with confidence.
He explained: “It’s going to be a brilliant test against a first team in Serie B. It’s going to be an outstanding occasion for the boys. They’ve risen to everything that we’ve asked of them and they will continue to do that.
“Win, lose or draw the group are giving us absolutely everything. We’ve got some unbelievable momentum at the moment and we want to keep that going, not just into Como, because we’ve got Blackburn in the fourth game in the Premier League Cup as well (on Saturday 26 November). We want to keep going and progress to the knockout stages."
