Youth Team striker Montell Moore has been offered a professional contract to be part of the Development Squad at Brentford Football Club.

Montell, 18, completes his two-year scholarship next month and has been given the chance to turn professional.

He has been offered a one-year contract and will sign it shortly.

Brentford have also offered a contract to goalkeeper Mark Smith, who did his two-year scholarship at Queens Park Rangers while central defender Lionel Stone has also been offered a professional deal.

However, Kojo Awotwi, Richard Bryan, Lewis Lavender, Michael Onovwigun, George Pilbeam, Fabian Rowe, Josh Stockwell and Joe Taylor will be leaving Brentford at the end of the season.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “We have taken the decision to only offer Development Squad contracts to players that we believe could play for Brentford in The Championship.

“That will be the same for the current group of Development Squad players.

“We are not signing Development Squad players to fulfil our fixtures; we will give younger players a chance in those games.

“That means that some players who may well be good enough to play professional football will be leaving us.

“I would like to wish those young players leaving us all the best for the rest of their career.

“Just because there is not an opportunity at Brentford at this time does not mean there is no future for them in football.

“But if we do not think they can play in The Championship then it is better they leave now and develop their career elsewhere.

“That is the best thing for them.”

Montell was given a contract after a fine season for both Youth Team and Development Squad.

Montell, 18, leads the Youth Team’s scoring charts this year with nine goals in 15 games to add to his five goals in the first year of his scholarship last season.

He scored his first Development Squad goal in the defeat to Queens Park Rangers last month and has made seven appearances for the Under-21 side this season.

Montell joined Brentford at the age of seven and lives in the town.

Goalkeeper Mark Smith has already signed a one-year contract after being told he would not be offered one by QPR.

He has been on trial at Brentford for a few months, playing one game for the Youth Team and two for the Development Squad.

The 18-year-old will join The Bees formally in the summer.

Defender Lionel, who has caps for Scotland at Unxder-17 level, also completes his two-year scholarship in the summer.

He was part of the Brentford Team that reached the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round in 2011/12 when he was in the Under-16 squad.

He has suffered with injury over the past two seasons but has played six Youth Team games this season, scoring twice, and six games for the Development Squad.

Ose added: “Lionel Stone has been offered a contract Mark Smith has signed and Montell will do so shortly.

“Mark has impressed in training and in games and will be a part of our group next season.

“He will have the chance to work with Academy Lead Goalkeeper Coach Jani Viander and hopefully First Team Goalkeeper Coach Simon Royce at times.

“He has the potential to develop.

“As I said, we will only be signing players that we feel can play in The Championship.

“Montell has had a good season and has stepped up to the Development Squad to play games.

“He has shown he has what it takes to play at that level and now will have the chance to push on.

“Montell has been with us for a long time; he came through the ranks and is a local lad.

“It is great for the younger boys in the Academy to see him turning professional and we may see someone who grew up in Brentford will represent Brentford in a First Team match at our new stadium.

“That is what the Club is all about.”
