There has been another addition to the Brentford B Team squad with 17-year-old German attacker Raphael Assibey-Mensah signing a two-year contract. The teenager, who turned 17 yesterday – Wednesday 31 August, has been added to The Bees’ attacking ranks. He signed his first professional contract after completing a medical and will remain a Brentford player until the summer of 2018.
Raphael can play on the left side or as an attacking midfielder and has moved to West London after leaving 1. FSV Mainz 05. He played for Mainz, where B Team Head Coach Flemming Pedersen also worked, at Under-17 level before leaving the German Bundesliga side at the end of last season.
Rob Rowan, Brentford FC Head of Football Operations, said: "Raphael is someone who we've looked at for quite some time. At 17, he's still quite raw and will need time and persistence to develop but we believe he's got the potential to develop into a good player. He trained with us yesterday for the first time and hopefully he will be in a position to feature against Liverpool at Griffin Park next week."
