Brentford B picked up a 1-0 win over Millwall Under-21s on Friday afternoon at Jersey Road with Kristoffer Ajer netting as he continued his return to action following injury.

The second half was seven minutes old when the Bees went ahead from a set piece as Tristan Crama headed goalwards before Ajer made sure the ball crossed the line from a yard or so out.

In what was their second match of the week having played AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday, Brentford started brightly with Kyreece Lisbie looking to threaten regularly down the left-hand side. On 13 minutes a good chance fell for the side as fantastic pressing from Isaac Holland saw him win the ball high before Ajer popped up on the overlap and crossed low. Lisbie then picked up the ball before driving across goal and shooting low with his effort well saved by Jordan Gilmore.

On 20 minutes Millwall had their first chance from distance as Seb Drozd curled over and that preceded another good opportunity for the Bees as they moved from back to front with speed as Max Wilcox charged forwards before teeing up Alex Gilbert, whose left footed shot edged just wide of the post.

On the cusp of half-time Millwall had their best opportunity as Kyle Smith charged down the right before crossing low for Abdul Abdulmalik who curled just wide of goal from inside the box.

After the break Abdulmalik shot over from the edge of the box which preceded the only goal of the game for Brentford. A set piece was driven into the box from the left-hand side and Crama rose highest at the far post to nod the ball towards goal. Ajer then managed to get the final touch as he ensured the ball crossed the line to cap off a positive return to playing for the Norwegian following injury.

The 24-year-old’s final action came just before the hour mark as he flicked the ball away following a dangerous cross with the follow up effort well blocked by Holland to keep the score at 1-0.

Another couple of moments then fell for Gilbert, the first of which saw Lisbie drive down the left-hand side before crossing low for his teammate and his shot was well blocked. Shortly after, the Brentford number 10 had the chance from a free-kick on the edge of the box which was aimed towards the top corner which Gilmore was equal to.

It could well have been 2-0 very late on as substitute Lucias Vine was played in down the left but his low effort was blocked well by the keeper. The Bees will now prepare for a match with Bournemouth U21 next week.
