The 17-year-old has been a regular goal scorer for Leatherhead’s Under-18s in recent seasons and has been with the young Bees for an extended trial, impressing the coaching staff since his arrival.
Ryan worked his way up the age ranks at Leatherhead before breaking into their under-18 setup and featuring for the side in the FA Youth Cup. The Isthmian League Premier Division club have played a crucial role in Ryan’s development up until now, and the youngster will join the ranks at Brentford B looking to continue his progress.
Ryan netted for Brentford B in games against the likes of Aldershot Town, Maidenhead United and Huddersfield Town B during his trial and has impressed since arriving with his energetic style and ability to create chances.
Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane says he’s pleased that Ryan will be joining his squad ahead of the rest of the campaign. He explained: “Ryan has done fantastically well since he’s come in to work with us from Leatherhead, a place where he’s had a positive start to his career under the coaching setup there. He’s a player that we’ve been really keen to bring in for many reasons, he’s bought into the culture, and he’s somebody who is really well liked within the group.
“On the pitch in training, and in matches, he’s had a real habit of creating opportunities for his teammates as well as score goals himself, which is a really good trait to have from midfield. When he’s been asked to play in midfield or further up, he’s done it superbly well.
“He’s come in from Leatherhead and once again we’ve been able to tap into that non-league environment as we have done with Fin Stevens and Wraynel Hercules. The recruitment team have done fantastically in identifying players of this profile and we hope that Ryan can continue to do well for us. There’s lots of development still to come from him, and hopefully he can go on and have a good career.
“One of the big things for him was adapting to the intensity of our training and the way we go about our games. He’s been able to do that and he will continue to get even fitter and stronger. The way that he’s applied himself means he thoroughly deserves the opportunity to stay with us and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
