Brentford left sided player Scott Barron underwent surgery on Saturday to repair a hip joint injury.

The 27-year-old, who has played at both left back and on the left of midfield for The Bees this season, originally sustained the injury in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Southend United in early December.

Scott, who has played 16 times for The Bees this season, will now undergo a period of rehabilitation and will look to return to action early next season.

Neil Greig, Brentford FC Head of Medical, said: "Scott first began to notice symptoms following the Southend game in December, although at that stage he felt these symptoms were manageable through conservative methods and was very keen to remain available for as many games as possible.

"However, in recent weeks Scott's symptoms have become more restrictive and further investigations have shown that this is a condition that will not heal itself, therefore required surgical correction.

"After consulting a respected orthopaedic surgeon specialising in such conditions, the decision was taken to perform surgery at this stage and give Scott the best possible chance of being available during the early part of next season.

"Surgery was performed on Saturday afternoon and was deemed a success in that the specialist was able to clearly identify the reasons for Scott symptoms and repair them appropriately.

"Scott will now spend the next few weeks recovering from the procedure prior to beginning a structured rehabilitation programme.

"It is a credit to Scott's first-class attitude that he has chosen manage this condition over the past few months so that he can contribute positively on the field.

"This attitude and commitment will stand him in good stead throughout his rehabilitation from this condition."
