Brentford Women’s First Team saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to an end after losing 5-1 to Dorking Wanderers, following the defeat Assistant Head Coach, Sean Hillier gave his thoughts on the performance.

Despite a positive start from the Bees, it was Dorking who got an early goal through their number nine, Gemma Shepperd.

Speaking on the goal, Hillier explained: “I thought we started the game well and played with confidence so for them to get their opener against the run of play was unlucky.

“It was a slight lapse in concentration which is frustrating but in high-reward games, these things can happen.”

The First Team had their backs against the wall for the remainder of the half but continued to work hard and were awarded with an equaliser on 41 minutes.

A brilliant pass from Sophie Troth found Chloe Logie with the striker taking one touch before smashing the ball into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

Celebration vs Dorking

Hillier continued: “It was a brilliant move for our goal, it was an excellent ball from Sophie and the touch and finish from Chloe was nothing short of exceptional.

“I felt we could have given her (Logie) more chances if we were braver and more relaxed on the ball.”

After going into half-time on level terms the Bees started the second half in the worst possible way.

Katie Butts made it 2-1 to Dorking on 46 minutes through a close-range finish which crept past Fouly.

Talking on the early second-half goal, Hillier said: “That was the worst possible thing that could have happened to us, they completely caught us off guard and we weren’t switched on which was disappointing.

Matthews vs Dorking

“I felt we reacted well but when they got their third that’s when our heads dropped slightly, and Dorking took advantage of that.”

Strikes from Amber Hendra, Shepperd and Charlotte Keenan saw the visitors leave Bedfont Sports Club 5-1 winners.

Hillier went on to explain the important job he and Manager, Karleigh Osborne now have in ensuring the players are able to pick themselves up after this tough loss.

Karleigh Osborne Dorking

“We need to make sure the girls get back to having a positive mindset, next weekend will soon come around and we'll need to make sure we are in the right frame of mind to get a positive result.

“Before today we were on a brilliant run, so I don’t want the players to feel disheartened by this result, Dorking are a strong side and they are really tough to play against.”
