Swedish goalkeeper Simon Andersson has become the latest addition to the Brentford B ranks. The 17-year-old goalkeeper signed a three-year contract at Griffin Park late yesterday, Thursday 20 August, after passing a medical. The teenager left Halmstads Bollklub to join The Bees and a compensation agreement has been reached by the two clubs for Simon to move to London, subject to international clearance.

The young stopper has progressed quickly through the ranks at Halmstad and is currently part of the First Team squad at the Swedish second tier side. He was promoted from the Under-19 squad at the start of 2018, just days past his 17th birthday. Simon was First Choice for Sweden at the recent European Under-17 Championships, held in England. He has nine caps for his country at that level and has already played 16 games for Sweden overall. His next international appearance will come when Sweden play England in an Under-17 game this autumn.

Kevin O’Connor, Brentford B Head Coach, said: “This is a very exciting signing. Simon is one of the most exciting young players in Sweden and it is a great coup to attract him to Brentford. He already has international experience and has been part of the First Team squad at Halmstad, on the bench for most of their games this season.

“Our scouting team were impressed by him when he played for Sweden at the European Championships and he will add a lot to the group. He has great presence and all the attributes needed to be a top goalkeeper. There is a lot of development potential as well and we will help him progress.”
