Brentford already know they will be playing Sky Bet Championship football in 2019/20 but now know five more of their opponents. The draw at Millwall on Good Friday confirmed The Bees would be in the second tier next season and even a win over promotion-chasing Leeds United yesterday could not change it. Brentford will, for the sixth season in a row, be in the second tier next season and the last season of football at Griffin Park will be with The Bees as a Championship side.

With three games of the Championship season remaining, nine teams in the division cannot go up or down. They, like The Bees, will remain in the second tier for next season. Two other teams are also guaranteed Sky Bet Championship football next season – Huddersfield Town and Fulham, who have been relegated from the Premier League. The teams newly confirmed as Championship sides for next year include Queens Park Rangers, which means Brentford will have four West London derbies in 2019/20

The full list of Sky Bet Championship teams confirmed for 2019/20 is as follows:

Fulham

Huddersfield Town

Nottingham Forest

Preston North End

Hull City

Blackburn Rovers

BRENTFORD

Stoke City

Birmingham City

Wigan Athletic

Queens Park Rangers

The 13 remaining places in the Championship will be filled over the next six weeks. One more team will be relegated from the Premier League and only four teams are mathematically in the running. Cardiff City occupy the final relegation place at present with Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton the teams they are most likely to catch. Burnley are just about safe, barring some big wins and losses.

There are eight teams that could win promotion from Sky Bet League One. Luton Town are currently top of the table with three games to go with Barnsley, who only have two to play, Sunderland and Portsmouth chasing hard. Portsmouth and Sunderland still have to play each other but all four teams could end up with more than 90 points and Charlton Athletic, in fifth, can still reach 88 so have a mathematic chance of automatic promotion for at least a few more days.

The nine other places in the second tier next year will go to current Championship teams. Six are trying to avoid the final relegation place – with Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town already down. Rotherham United are most in danger of dropping down to the third tier. They can still catch Millwall and Reading, albeit the latter only need to avoid big defeats to stay up, but are running out of games.

At the other end there are still ten teams that can win promotion, either automatically or via the Play-Offs. Norwich City are almost up. Thanks to Brentford beating Leeds, they need just a point from their last two games. Sheffield United will clinch second place if they take four points from two games and will need less if Leeds drop more points. West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa are confirmed in the Play-Offs and five more teams are hunting a top place 12 days of the season to go.
